Things you want to know before you start dieting

3 things I wish I knew before I started my weight loss journey

Hey, Helen Birch here, in this quick blog you are going to learn things that I wish I knew before I started my weight loss journey and how they can help you in your life right now.

For those who don’t know me I help failed dieters recover their natural ability to control food intake, end their obsession with diets, comfort eating and food addiction to achieve their desired body.

diet and willpower

Have you ever gone to bed after a massive binge in front of the telly and decided tomorrow is the day? Tomorrow I am going to make healthy choices and not binge on food. You are confident, determined and raring to go. This time you were going to stick to it. But by lunch time you have scoffed a bar of chocolate, packet of crisps and a pre- made sandwich from Tescos. And then the guilt sets in and you blame yourself. Ask yourself what is wrong with me? Why couldn’t i just stop myself? Why do I have no willpower?

You don’t need willpower

And there is your biggest mistake relying on willpower. There is nothing wrong with your will power. It is normal. The key to resisting temptation isn’t willpower. You have become tapped. Trapped with your body, mind and emotions. Trapped in a cycle of diets, weight lose, binges, weight gain and guilt. Until you break free from the cycle, these feelings will never go away and eventually your willpower cant resist them anymore. Your willpower is there for the short term and for motivation not to continually resist forever.

So stop having a go at yourself, stop giving those negative thoughts power. Stop blaming yourself for your lack of strength, and in ability to stick to your diet promise. And perhaps use your willpower to find a new way to take control yourself and not let food be in control of you .

So that’s all for me today, let me recap the 3 things I wish I knew before I started my weight loss journey

1.You have become trapped in a cycle of diets, weight loss, binges and weight gain

2.The only way to break free of binges is to break the cycle

3.There is nothing wrong with your willpower it is normal.
